Visit to Casa Loma - by Oliver

How long have you been in Toronto? Have you ever visited the Casa Loma castle? I have been living in Toronto for 9 months and I heard people talking about Casa Loma. I thought it was an old hotel or a jail used at the beginning of this town. It was a foregone conclusion that I’ll be surprised by what I’ll find it out. The castle is so magnificent that it is breath taking! Before you cross the door, your expectations are so high. Inside the hall, you can read in people’s mind and see how they are disappointed. The hall is nothing to write about and that’s the first contact you have with the castle. After crossing the door, someone gives us a pamphlet and a phone where you can find the castle’s plan and listen to a short history about each piece you’ll visit. As far as obtaining a phone, you can ask for different languages but pay attention if you are more than one and you use different languages, you won’t have the same story with more or less details! From my standpoint, it’s a big mistake regardless; it is supposed to be historic facts. How big was my deception when I saw the great hall covered with plastic sheets. They were repairing and painting the most important room of the castle and we couldn’t see anything. It’s not written in stone that you should be able to see everything in this castle when you pay your ticket. That’s the second deception! Once in the library, you forget everything you felt and saw before. It was so gorgeous! Everybody looked at walls, floors and ceiling. We could hear a fly on the wall. We visited the second floor and could imagine the life of Sir Henry Mill Pellat with his wife Lady Mary. We could feel the same atmosphere we experience in cemeteries; calm, sadness and coldness. The third level had no bearing on the life of this castle, a military museum with many artifacts. Nobody can understand this visit since you don’t get any explanation. There was nothing special which kept our attention. We finished this visit by climbing the tower, up three levels. There was nothing to see except for the city skyline by looking through some small windows. Once downstairs, we went outside to see the garden. We were in December and we could see nothing. What deception! I can’t believe the price was the same than if we were in the summer and being able to walk around the castle to admire the landscape. Finally, we could have gone visit the stable but our visit of the tower lets us skeptical to find something really interesting. The visit of Casa Loma is a nice activity to do during the summer to connect with the past of an important Toronto’s family. You have to go with friends and take advantage of the beauty of the exterior places and the splendid terraces. Otherwise, there is nothing really interesting for twelve dollars.
