Focus on Speaking (FOS) is for students interested in improving their ability to speak and communicate in the English language. Students will improve their linguistic and strategic conversation skills. Students will learn how to start conversations and keep them going to a desired conclusion. Students will also learn the necessary North American cultural and social customs that will assist them in learning how and when to say the right thing.


Communication
Through weekly topics students will increase their understanding of North American culture and social customs. This will help students with everyday English conversations as it will give students the background information to communicate successfully.

Pronunciation/Accent Reduction
Students will learn, practice and use correct English language pronunciation. Understanding correct pronunciation will increase students� ability to maintain conversations. Understanding of pronunciation also greatly improves a students� listening skills, as pronunciation is an essential part of two-way verbal communication.

Conversation
Students will learn important words, phrases and expressions that will help to start conversations and keep them going. Students will practice expressing themselves in English using easy-to-talk-about topics such as school, television, life, relationships, and so on. Throughout the course, students will engage in active conversations, building confidence in themselves as speakers of the English language.
