On September 11, 2009, the American Language Center said good-bye to 439 students who spent their summer studying in our Academic and Communications programs. Whether they took the 12-, 6- or 4-week program, students improved their English skills, learned about American culture and made life-long friends from around the world. As one student said in her graduation speech, ALC can be compared to the Olympic Games, where "people forget all differences. There are no bounderies despite the difference of color, religion or tradition. Only tolerance, respect and peace are important. And we found these values at UCLA." What a wonderful message for our international students -- especially on this historic anniversary of 9/11.
