IEI Talents: The Architect

If you happen to meet Gunwook Nam, he strikes you as shy, modest, and hardworking, like many of his Korean classmates. Little did I know about the energy and talent hidden beneath his modesty until I saw pictures of his work in a class presentation. Amazed by his genius, I became more curious and soon I learned that he is not only a quality student of English. Gunwook Nam is a very gifted young architect who promises to excel in his field. He holds an MA degree in Engineering and Architecture Engineering from the Inha University, Incheon, in South Korea. Gunwook has participated in several exhibitions in Korea and abroad (San Francisco, New York, Vladivostok, London), and is the winner of many prestigious awards. Such are the 1st prize at the 2008 Urban Revision Competition AIA San Francisco, and the Award of Jury Selection at the 2008 ENYA Biennial International Idea Competition AIA New York, among many others. When you ask him to explain his success, he humbly replies that, “when he designs, he always attempts to break fixed ideas.” I am happy to see that Gunam takes the same attitude towards learning English. What a pleasure it is to see how he strives for quality in English! And what an honor and pride for the Intensive English Institute to be able to assist in promoting his career!   Silva Dushku
